About Us

The Conservation Leadership Programme (CLP) is a partnership of four conservation organisations – BirdLife International, Conservation International, Fauna & Flora International, the Wildlife Conservation Society – working to promote the development of future biodiversity conservation leaders by providing a range of awards, training and mentoring support via an active international network of practitioners. Funding for the CLP is provided by the energy company BP.

Our awards go beyond simple financial grants by including a range of training and professional mentoring activities provided both locally and internationally to approximately 200 individuals per year. Full details, including criteria and submission procedure can be found on the grants page.

The Programme has the following key objectives:

  • Identify, engage and encourage the conservation leaders of the future
  • Promote professional development
  • Foster productive linkages and networks
  • Ensure the effective and practical application of conservation science

Where We Work

The CLP offers support to young conservationists living and working in the following places: Africa, Asia, East/Southeastern Europe, the Middle East, the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean. Countries designated by the World Bank as ‘high-income economies’ and countries with US Sanctions are not eligible for CLP support. Exceptions to these criteria include some high-income economies located in tropical areas of high biological diversity, including the Pacific and Caribbean Islands and the Middle East. If you have any questions about eligibility, please contact the CLP.

What We Offer
