Summary:

The inventory of Important Bird Areas (IBAs) in Uzbekistan has been implemented between 2006 and 2008. As a result 48 IBAs with a total territory of more than 2 million hectares have been identified. Nevertheless, not all territories of the initial list could have been investigated. This project plans to survey 3 territories of potentially high importance for birds and other wildlife and, if appropriate, propose them for IBA nomination. In addition to scientific research, awareness raising of local communities will be carried out in collaboration with a network of student bird-watching clubs and the support of the Uzbekistan Society for the Protection of Birds (UzSPB), the implementer of the IBA program in Uzbekistan.
