Amazonian manatee conservation project, Anavilhanas National Park, Brazil

This project focuses on the research and conservation of a wild population of Amazonian manatee (Trichechus inunguis), at Anavilhanas National Park, lower Rio Negro region, Amazonas, Brazil. The objectives of the project are to investigate the conservation status of this Amazonian manatee population, to determine and monitor habitat and landscape use by manatees and to verify the threats to the species. Expanded scientific knowledge of manatee biology, ecology and habitat use will be crucial to plan adequately and enhance the species conservation in the long run and to design a conservation action plans for the species.
