Jyoti Das

In northeast India, the status of Asian elephant is seriously threatened because of incidences of conflict between humans and elephants resulting from human induced factors. Local people require assistance to enhance their knowledge of conflict patterns and to explore the possibilities of co-existence with elephants. The project will primarily assess human-elephant conflict status, mapping conflict with objective based sampling method and developing mitigation strategies, besides looking at the impact and management options for: cattle grazing, frequent burning, unsustainable harvest of Minor Forest Produces and developing a collaborative network of stakeholders and project participants through a combined effort of scientific and sociological methods.
