SUPPORTED PROJECTS

Conservation, human rights and indigenous peoples

Ria Saryanthi

BirdLife is working to better understand the impact of its conservation actions on local communities and Indigenous Peoples and the role that those affected by conservation could have in both promoting conservation and benefiting from it.  Our programs offer valuable lessons that we should share more effectively with one another and the world at large about how sound conservation, natural resource management, good governance practices, improvements in living standards and respect for human rights can mutually reinforce one another to improve the quality of life of people living under tenuous, and even desperate, circumstances. Many BirdLife Partners have experience of working with Indigenous Peoples in their conservation programmes, including in Cameroon, Uganda, Bolivia, Mexico, Canada, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Fiji. The aim of this internship is to review and learn from those experiences.
