Conservation of threatened wildlife in southwestern Amazonia – Brazil

Willandia Chaves Didier

Many gaps in knowledge impede conservation actions for species of concern in Amazonia. Our study-sites are large protected areas within the known or potential range of several globally threatened and/or restricted-range species.

Our goals are: 1) contribute to the conservation of globally threatened and other species of concern, 2) inform the sustainable management of multiple-use protected areas, and 3) contribute to conservation through education. We will use line-transects and point counts to survey birds. We will visit local schools to promote conservation and will talk to local communities to gather data on wildlife harvest.
