Elephant and lion monitoring and anti-poaching efforts around Yankari Game Reserve and Kainji Lake National Park, Nigeria

The intern will be based at Yankari Game Reserve where he will give support to the existing WCS project designed to improve levels of elephant protection in collaboration with Bauchi State Government. The intern will be expected to work closely with the General Manager and his rangers on the existing Cybertracker-based monitoring program.  He will also work on phase II of the Panthera-WCS lion conservation project which will focus on two sites in Nigeria: Yankari Game Reserve and Kainji Lake National Park. This work will focus on socio-economic surveys of Fulani pastoralists living in and around protected areas to better understand the current situation and to propose possible solutions to reduce levels of conflict; as well as call-up surveys of YGR and KLNP.
