SUPPORTED PROJECTS

Local empowerment programme for Africa

Caroline Njoki Wamaitha

The first set of goals is for the intern to acquire the requisite skills and knowledge critical to be well positioned to take a lead role in developing the capacities of the local communities to sustainably manage and benefit from their natural resources. Consistent with these goals and with recent principles for a sound Local Empowerment Programme, we expect the graduate of this internship to be confident and have a sense of purpose needed to thrive academically, professionally and civically. By the end of the internship the intern should be able to not only function as a conservation practitioner who is able to utilize scientific methods in professional practice, but who can also understand and relate to the realities faced by local communities in managing natural resources.
