Conservation of threatened birds in Azerbaijan

A rich diversity of landscape types in Azerbaijan creates ideal conditions for a high number of globally threatened species. Six species were selected for this project based on the fact that insufficient data had been collected on them, particularly during their migration seasons. Nine sites were selected for research, covering the most important or most probable areas of species distribution. Both fast growing industry development and intensive agricultural land use have negative impacts causing areas of important habitats to decrease, and bird numbers to drop from year to year. To remedy this, a key area of focus is the environmental education of future conservationists and members of the community.
