Karla G. Hernandez-Aguilar

Background

Karla is the CLP Senior Programme Officer at BirdLife International, where she leads two flagship global leadership development initiatives: the CLP Team Awards and the Graeme Gibson Fellowship. She has over a decade of experience in international conservation, managing programmes and projects focused on biodiversity conservation, community-led initiatives, protected areas, indigenous and traditional knowledge, environmental justice, climate change, and capacity development.

Karla is a strong advocate of equitable, inclusive, and collaborative conservation practices. Her work promotes participatory and transdisciplinary approaches that integrate diverse knowledge systems to drive decisive conservation action. She holds a PhD in Geography from the University of Nottingham, an MSc in Conservation Leadership from Colorado State University, and a BSc in Biology from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).
