Team investigated the cloud forest on the Coedillera de Cyaanilla in Loja Province to determine the status, distribution and threat to the 14 globally threatened birds species known from the region. Surveys revealed that all the deciduous dry forest has been cleared. The team therefore selected areas elsewhere in the province. Populations of several threatened birds species were found in very degraded habitats reflecting widespread deforestation.
