Conservation Management & Leadership (CML) workshop

Every year, the CLP team prepares to deliver an international training designed to build capacity for CLP award winners, with the goal of strengthening their leadership skills and creating opportunities for them to make an impactful change in the conservation world. The training focuses on equipping early-career conservation practitioners with the essential tools they need to lead successful projects, tackle complex conservation challenges, and engage effectively with stakeholders.

This immersive Conservation Management & Leadership (CML) workshop is one of the most thoughtful curriculum redesigns, addressing critical skills that are often not covered in traditional academic programs. By selecting one participant from each award-winning team—who is committed to conservation, open to new ideas, and ready to learn—CLP ensures that these future leaders are well-prepared to implement their projects with greater impact. Through interactive exercises and discussions, the training empowers these emerging conservation leaders to become more effective and influential, driving meaningful change in the conservation sector.

In 2024, we redesigned the CML curriculum to emphasize leadership development, focusing on the tools and techniques that are essential for navigating the complexities of conservation work. The redesigned 9-day in-person retreat workshop was designed to engage award representatives in a hands-on, participatory way, where they could directly apply complex methods and strategies in practical scenarios.

Regional Training

CLP continues to support our alumni with their career development by providing training on high-priority topics including: Conservation Leadership, Fundraising, and Writing for Conservation.

Participants in these courses gain practical skills and knowledge that they can use to become more effective conservation practitioners and that can help advance their careers. Alumni will be contacted if a local training course is being conducted in their country or region.
