Over the last four decades, CLP has built an excellent record of supporting local conservation leaders in their work to safeguard globally threatened biodiversity worldwide.
Many of the early-career leaders we have supported are now among the most respected and celebrated conservationists in the sector, with 98% of our alumni saying that CLP has been important for their career.
Our alumni serve as catalysts for change. They help uncover critical information; create protected areas and restore habitats, establish organisations, transform policies, and enable local communities to act and collaborate.
Case StudiesBy offering early-career conservation leaders a full suite of support, including scaled funding, specialised training, unique mentorship and continuous peer-to-peer support, CLP enables them to mobilise action, shape policies and foster sustainable development.
In our CLP projects, we created a large protected area encompassing most of the known range of the Araripe manakin and established two private reserves. We also managed to create an incredible level of local awareness about Araripe manakin conservation.

Winning the CLP award in 2023 was more than just funding—it was the start of an incredible journey. Thanks to CLP, I gained the resources and skills to advance my project, and became part of a global family of conservationists. To me, that is just as important as the work we do in the field.

One of the frog species I discovered was part of our first CLP project, and our second CLP project enabled us to establish a refuge for the Togo slippery frog and other threatened wildlife. Our third CLP award allowed us to carry out habitat restoration in the refuge and has supported the expansion of our conservation work into Togo.

CLP is unique in its continued long-term support for alumni. The majority of early-career leaders supported by CLP are still working in conservation 10 years after receiving their first CLP award.
