Bringing bats off the brink: conservation action for the Critically Endangered Seychelles sheath-tailed bat
Terence Vel
This study will build on the previous BPCP funded ‘Bats on the Brink’ (BOTB) project by testing three alternative hypotheses about the causes of the severe population decline of Coleura seychellensis. Having identified the major cause, action will be taken to minimise any further impact and prevent future decline. Following the protocols developed in the first BPCP project, further roosts and foraging areas will be identified to build a more detailed picture of the bat’s ecology. In addition, we will strive for immediate protection of all known roosts and feeding areas and build on the excellent education and awareness work of the previous project.
