Assisting with formation of an Ecuadorian Alliance for Zero Extinction

Pablo Menendez

Earlier this year, several Ecuadorian conservation organizations, government officials, in addition to a few international organizations agreed on the idea to form an Ecuadorian Alliance for Zero Extinction whose goal it would be to identify and protect the most critical sites for highly threatened species in Ecuador, using the best local information available, and to mobilize government sectors and the Ecuadorian population in general to safeguard these truly irreplaceable sites. In order to achieve the goals of the nascent Ecuadorian AZE, this intern will help coordinate the initiation of this Alliance in Ecuador, building on the experiences of the global alliance as well as the national alliances in Colombia, Brazil, and Turkey, and also lead the process to identify and map those species and sites that meet the criteria developed by the Ecuadorian AZE.
