Eurasian bridge ’99 : bat research in north-western Turkey
Arpat Ozgul
An investigative project aiming to locate and identify the populations of threatened bat species in north-western Turkey. This, the first study of its kind, will provide much needed information and by setting up the first Bat Research Group in Turkey will build the foundations for long term research and monitoring activities. A core team of three, including graduate students and volunteers, will work in three phases to complete initial survey and summer counts and then analysing data to ascertain regional and seasonal distribution patterns. Close collaboration with the Turkish Society for Preservation of Wildlife (DHKD) will help raise public awareness and formulate a conservation plan.
