Merg expedition to Tsaratanana, Madagascar 1989

Paul Thompson

A survey in RNI Tsaratanana, one of the largest rainforest reserves and which includes the highest mountain in Madagascar. Surveys will investigate: forest extent and exploitation, rainforest structure, birds (particularly endemic and threatened species), reptiles, amphibians, small mammals and lemurs, insects and ethnobotany.

Project update: 2/8/96. This was originally planned as a survey of RNI Tsaratanana, one of the largest rainforest reserves in Madagascar. Biological surveys were actually conducted further south in Ambatovaky Special Reserve, also in the critical East Malagasy wet forests EBA (094). There has been no follow-up at the reserve is too remote.
