Conservation Field Training for Young Park Rangers in Argentina

Maria Jose Pacha

The last remaining continuous block of the Atlantic Forest needs skilled park rangers to adequately protect this ecoregion and attend to the complex environmental, social and economic needs of this endangered ecoregion. The overall goal is to provide necessary skills and practical experience to face the needs of the local environmental and social contexts for the effective protection and management of protected areas. The objective is to implement an internship programme consisting of practical hands-on work in protected areas, to be integrated into the academic training of the park rangers of Misiones, Argentina. Through intensive courses and practical experiences in the Urugua-í Wildlife Reserve, park rangers will increase their knowledge on control, assistance to scientific research, education and outreach and management of protected areas.
