Green Corridor Leadership: biodiversity conservation with social involvement in the Atlantic Forest of Argentina
Diego Varela
Misiones (Argentina) contains one of the major Atlantic Forest remnants; nevertheless, deforestation threatens to isolate them. Since 2002, we have been working in the corridor between Urugua-í and Foerster parks. This proposal aims to consolidate the corridor by implementing a new co-managed reserve. We will design a participatory management plan for it and support community initiatives within it (education, agroecology, restoration) as well as conduct biodiversity surveys and a monitoring programme. We will also strengthen our NGO by forming new partnerships and increasing fundraising and communication (media, website, documentary), which will assure our long term work in the ecoregion.
