Inventory, distribution & conservation action of the Critically Endangered Philippine forest turtle, Philippines

Pierre Fidenci

This project will assess the distribution, habitat use, relative abundance and threats to the critically endangered Philippine forest turtle in Palawan Island, Philippines, a high priority hotspot for biodiversity. In addition, the project will conduct a global assessment of all freshwater turtle species of Palawan, identify local suppliers of the Philippine forest turtle and conduct innovative educational programs. After gathering and analyzing data, and, in conjunction with the Palawan Suitable Development Council, Palawan State University and indigenous local groups, the team will propose long-term core conservation areas to conserve viable populations of the Philippine forest turtle and its habitat.
