Ornithological survey of the coast of Libya, 1993
Peter Meininger
The team worked in collaboration with the Marine Biology Research Centre at Tajura. The group rediscovered the Lesser Crested Tern (Sterna bengalensis) as a breeding bird in Libya. Two breeding sites were located, and other Libyan coastal wetland areas are also described. Some notes on birds seen in Tunisian wetlands are also included.
Information on threats to breeding birds obtained: these were considered to be few. Other Libyan coastal wetland areas were also described and notes made on birds seen in Tunisian wetlands. Libyan colleagues continued censuses (P. Meininger in litt. 1993, P. Meininger in litt. 1998).
