Sustainable bat conservation in Caucasus Mountain regions
Zoltan Nagy
Caucasus is one of the most biologically rich regions on the Earth; the extremely various landscape providing many types of habitats for bats. The overall goal of the project is to maintain the actual population level of the cave dwelling bats in the target regions. Key aims are: to identify species conservation status and important habitats, involving in these actions local community members at all level, through workshop, public presentations, mass-media; to produce a scientific basis for long-term and effective conservation measures, by audit of the existing data, by organising a survey of underground key roosts, identifying the main threats and co-operating with local communities.
