Inspiring Confidence in the Next Generation of Conservationists

Opportunities for young conservationists supported by the Conservation Leadership Programme (CLP), a partnership between Fauna & Flora International (FFI), BirdLife International and the Wildlife Conservation Society have been given a boost thanks to funding from Fondation Segré Conservation Fund at FFI.

Over the next five years, this funding will be channelled through the CLP to:

  • Support 45 Segré Internships based within the four CLP partner organizations
  • Incorporate Segré Interns into the CLP Alumni Network where they can engage with several thousand CLP alumni from around the world
  • Support ten ‘Learning Exchanges’ – a mentoring scheme to further support and develop the skills and capabilities of CLP alumni.

CLP’s internship programme has given an important step onto (or up) the career ladder to 91 young conservationists globally since it was launched in 2006, and it has provided many young conservationists with their first exposure to professional working life either in the field or office. On many occasions, interns have been offered paid contracts to continue working at the end of their internship.

The Learning Exchange Programme provides an opportunity for CLP alumni to act as mentors to current projects and share their skills and experience with others in the CLP alumni network. This is a truly unique opportunity for conservationists to assist or learn from their peers to overcome key challenges to their projects.

The CLP looks forward to welcoming the first cohort of Segré interns into the CLP Alumni Network in 2014 and will be promoting the learning exchange opportunities throughout the summer.
